Remember the younger days?
I begin by first talking to the parents and assessing what they see the problems are. I then meet with child approximately 2 or 3 times to asses who they are and what might be happening for them. Finally, I share the assessment of the child with the parents, and together we come up with a treatment plan.
Typically, therapy continues with the child alone. This is some form of play therapy depending on the age of the child. The parents are included and invited to share their concerns from home. They are always included in matters of safety. But, I do attempt to foster high trust in the child and adolescent by not reporting all material to the parents.
