What is Trauma
Effects of trauma are very individual. Most people re-experience the “traumatic event” over and over. Trauma can cause anxiety, depression, hopelessness, sadness, fear, and anger. No event that one defines as traumatic is too small or too big. I have worked extensively in the area of trauma. Long lasting effects of trauma are not determined by the intensity of the traumatic event, rather how it was acknowledged, understood, and processed.
Signs of Depression
- Experience a traumatic event
- Recurrent and involuntary reliving of that traumatic event
- Avoidance of things that are associated with that traumatic event
- Fear
- Guilt
- Shame
- Lack of positive emotions
- Anger
- Hypervigilance
- Sleep disturbance
How I will help you
We will first begin by spending time assessing why you are anxious, depressed, or experiencing trauma. We will next address your history and how this feeds into your (anxiety, depression, or trauma) state. I will work to listen, understand, teach, and direct you in way that could reduce your symptoms. This can take some time as a I am wanting to know what makes you tick, and what helps you in life.
Everyone is unique. Sometimes therapy can make things feel worse before they feel better. The goal is to eventually help you manage the unmanageable.
If you think you’ve gone or are going through a traumatic, life changing experience, or are not sure, contact me to schedule an appointment.
